It says that you can be a role model to people. What that means is that if you want to be an example people will look at you. They would want to see you how you react to things so they can do the same so if you can control your emotions or other things they will also be in control of themselves. It matters because people want to be role models and do what it takes to be in control of things or themselves. People that follow you will try to do the same as well or even better. It depends on the person who you want to follow because some people can be a good influence or bad. So be in control so other people can also tame themselves. I can apply this to my life by always controlling my self so I don't look bad and others can follow that and never react to something that will get me mad because of my bad temper and so will the others.
